あらすじ

ガチョウを連れたハンスは村にたどり着き、そこで研ぎ師と出会った。その研ぎ師はとても裕福そうに見えて、ハンスは彼に話しかけた。
彼が言うには、研ぎ師という職業はとても儲かり、いつポケットに手を入れても、ポケットにはお金が入っているのだと言う。彼はハンスに研ぎ師になるよう勧め、ハンスのガチョウと砥石を交換しても良いと持ち掛ける。

And when he reached the last village, he saw a knife-grinder with his barrow; and his wheel went whirring round, and he sang,
