Where are you all going?『#79_オズの魔法使い』

あらすじ

　その家にいた男性はドロシーの行き先と目的を聞いて驚いた。オズが誰にも会わないと知っていたからだ。

So they all entered the house, where there were, besides the woman, two children and a man.

　彼らが家に入ると、女性のほかに二人の子供と一人の男性がいました。

The man had hurt his leg, and was lying on the couch in a corner.

　その男性は足を怪我していて、隅の長椅子で横になっていました。

They seemed greatly surprised to see so strange a company, and while the woman was busy laying the table the man asked:

　彼らは奇妙な一団を見てとても驚いたようでした。女性が忙しくテーブルをセットしている間に、男性が尋ねました。

"Where are you all going?"

「どこに行くのですか？」

"To the Emerald City," said Dorothy, "to see the Great Oz."

「偉大なオズに会いに、エメラルドシティへ行く予定です」ドロシーが言いました。

"Oh, indeed!" exclaimed the man. "Are you sure that Oz will see you?"

　男性が叫びました。「ええ、本気でオズに会えると思うのですか？」

"Why not?" she replied.

「どうして会えないと思うのですか？」ドロシーが答えました。

"Why, it is said that he never lets anyone come into his presence. I have been to the Emerald City many times, and it is a beautiful and wonderful place; but I have never been permitted to see the Great Oz, nor do I know of any living person who has seen him."

「だって、オズは誰にも姿を見せないそうですよ。私は何度もエメラルドシティへ行きました。美しく素敵なところです。しかし、私はオズに会うことを許されませんでした。彼に会ったという人も知りません」
