あらすじ

　案山子はブレインを手に入れて、仲間たちのところに戻ってきた。頭脳の鋭さを示すように、彼の頭からピンとニードルが突き出ていた。

オズの魔法使い（対訳）

Dorothy looked at him curiously.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

　ドロシーは興味深そうに案山子を見ました。

His head was quite bulged out at the top with brains.

　案山子の頭はブレインが詰まって、頭頂部が膨らんでいました。

“How do you feel?” she asked.

「どんな感じですか？」ドロシーが尋ねました。

“I feel wise indeed,” he answered earnestly.

「賢い気がします」案山子は真面目に答えました。

“When I get used to my brains I shall know everything.”

「脳に慣れれば、何でもわかるでしょうね」

“Why are those needles and pins sticking out of your head?” asked the Tin Woodman.

「ニードルとピンが頭から突き出ているのはどうしてですか？」ブリキの木こりが尋ねました。

“That is proof that he is sharp,” remarked the Lion.

「彼が鋭いという証拠です」ライオンが言いました。

“Well, I must go to Oz and get my heart,” said the Woodman.

「さて、オズのところに行ってハートを手に入れてきます」木こりが言いました。

So he walked to the Throne Room and knocked at the door.

　木こりは玉座の間へ歩いていき、ドアをノックしました。

“Come in,” called Oz, and the Woodman entered and said, “I have come for my heart.”

「どうぞ」オズが呼んだので、木こりは部屋に入って言いました。「ハートを取りに来ました」
